What personal data we collect and why we collect it

At The Pouring Brain, we take the collection and protection of data very seriously. As a general rule, we do not automatically collect personal information from visitors to our site. However, non-personal information, including your browser type, operating system, and your Internet Protocol (IP) Address, is recorded by the standard operation of our internet servers. This information is used primarily to provide an enhanced online experience for the visitor, and we do not use this information to personally identify you.

We do collect minimal personal information, such as name and email address, but only when visitors voluntarily submit this information through the use of comments and contact forms.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, such as name, email, or website name, depending on whether the visitor is a WordPress user or not. In addition, we collect the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

When filling out our contact form on the Contact Us page, we ask for your name and email, so that we may respond to your inquiry. Other than for responses, we do not use the information submitted through contact forms. Refer to the subsection labeled “How long we retain your data” for more information on the length of time in which we keep this information.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

You have the ability to enable, disable, or erase cookies using your web browser settings.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

The Pouring Brain uses Google Analytics to track the statistics regarding our audience and website traffic. The information comes in the form of visitor numbers and visit time; no personally identifiable information is transferred from the website to Google Analytics.

For more information, please refer to Google Analytics privacy policies.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For customer service purposes, we keep contact form submissions for two weeks, but after that, we do not keep or use the information submitted. er to

What rights you have over your data

If you have left comments on this site, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data (received through comments and contact forms) we hold about you, by contacting us through email: gabby@thepouringbrain.com. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

The Pouring Brain uses the Askimet anti-spam service in order to detect spam in the comment section of our site. To do so, Askimet collects the information provided in the comment (name and username or email address), along with the commentator’s IP address, user agent, referrer, and site URL.

The information is not sent or used anywhere outside of the above service.

How we protect your data

The Pouring Brain uses Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), which provides a private connection and secure communications over the computer network.

Children’s Policy

The Pouring Brain does not knowingly or specifically collect information about children under the age of 18. We believe that children of any age should get a parent’s consent before giving out personal information.
