Let’s skip the part where I talk about myself, because this blog isn’t about me. However, if you’re really aching to know who’s (wo)manning the post, check out the About page for the short-and-sweet version.
First, let’s talk about the name. Like what I hope is the majority of people, I love a good pun, which played a role in the blog-naming process. I also love imagery, especially that of the abstract variety, so I wanted a name that people could visualize in their minds. I didn’t want a name that would limit me to writing within one specific category; rather, I wanted to be able to pour my various thoughts into this blog. Thus, I chose The Pouring Brain. From rainfall, comes beauty and growth. I’m not only pouring my mind into this blog, but I’m also hoping to pour new perspectives into my mind.
Speaking of limits, I don’t have a concrete plan or structure for this blog, because having such organization feels too confining for what I want this blog to be. For me, writing is all about bending rules, experimenting, discovering, and creating. You know what they say about thinking and boxes.
That being said, I do know what I want to write about, which is art. While reading and writing are my primary interests, I also have a large appreciation for music and visual art (though I am not, in any way, shape, or form, an expert on any of the above subjects).
I have a towering stack of novels, poetry books, and music albums that I’m aiming to work my way through and share my thoughts on. In addition, I’m a collector of writing prompts, tips, and inspiration, which I want to pass on to others. My hope is that we can all learn something along the way.
Again, I’m not an expert, but I am very passionate about the arts, and I’m ecstatic to share and experience the awesomeness of art with other passionate humans!
